Training is for our Mainline Pipeline Sector. This initiative
will solidify our base for the future of Local
663 and
the very vital role we play in the pipeline sector.
This
grant identifies the need to train and instruct young pipe welders
in Local 663 on "Down Hand
Welding
Procedures".
It
consists of 2 three week sessions and will run on 10 hour/6
days a week hands on program.
Local
663 is proud to say that we have the best core of "Down
Hand Pipeline Welders" in the country.
I
will appoint two instructors to guide our young welders through
this demanding course.
On
completion of this course the twenty new welders will be given
an X-Ray Test that will be recognized by Union
Gas.
We
are currently mobilizing people, machines and 42" pipe
etc.. in hopes that training can begin by July 12, 2004
and ending by August 20, 2004.
There
are specific guidelines for this grant, therefore the office
will make the selection of the welding candidates.
Instructors
however will be given full autonomy to judge competence of those
chosen.
U.A.
Local 663 will also put on a similar course for those who are
currently eligible to work this sector.
